IV Therapy Q & A

What is IV therapy?

IV therapy is an outpatient procedure that administers vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients through a needle and into your vein. The process allows your body to absorb more vitamins, ensuring long-lasting and positive treatment outcomes.

If you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic medical condition, or you frequently feel tired or foggy-headed, IV therapy can help. A series of appointments a week or two apart can restore your energy levels and help you feel your best.

What conditions can benefit from IV therapy?

At Everyday Urgent Care, the team uses IV therapy to treat various conditions, including:

  • Dehydration
  • Vitamin deficiencies
  • Fatigue
  • Jetlag
  • Hangovers
  • Neurological conditions, like multiple sclerosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Immune deficiencies
  • Iron deficiency and anemia
  • Asthma

You might also benefit from IV therapy if you’re an athlete and want to recover following an intense competition.

Who is a candidate for IV therapy?

To determine if you’re a candidate for IV therapy, your Everyday Urgent Care provider reviews your health history and asks about the symptoms you’re experiencing, including when they first started, where they’re located, and if any activities, like exercising or eating certain foods, make them worse.

Next, your provider performs a physical exam and orders several lab tests, including blood work and urinalysis. Your provider uses the results of these tests to determine if you have a vitamin, mineral, or nutrient deficiency.

After gathering the necessary information, your provider develops a custom IV therapy treatment plan.

What does IV therapy involve?

At Everyday Urgent Care, the team performs IV therapy on an outpatient basis. At the beginning of your appointment, you sit down in a comfortable reclining chair. The team also provides pillows and blankets to ensure the process is relaxing and pain-free.

Once you’re in position, your provider sterilizes your arm with an antiseptic solution and carefully inserts the IV into your vein. The IV is attached to a bag that contains vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that slowly enter your bloodstream.

How long does IV therapy take?

The length of time that IV therapy takes depends on the severity of your symptoms and the condition treated.

If you’re undergoing IV therapy to recover from a long weekend of partying, the session might only last 30 minutes. If you need IV therapy for a chronic medical condition, your appointment might take an hour or more.
